Pink Depression Glass
By far the most collectible, but not necessarily the most valuable depression glass is that of the pink variety. Pink depression glass was made by several manufacturers between 1929 and 1939 such as the Hocking Glass Company and the Jeannette Glass Company. These pieces vary in type and also come in a variety of patterns.
Although the items and pieces are referred to as pink, some of them have only a slight pink tinge to them. Others are a stronger pink color but the majority of these pieces are a translucent pinkish and sometimes slightly orangey color. Imagine a nice art-deco martini glass in a light pink coloring. Lovely.
The Hocking Glass Company made their pink glassware in various patterns including the diamond shaped "Miss America" as well as "Queen Mary". Glassware made by the MacBeth-Evans company is often thin and pale pink compared to the Jeannette Glass Company whose items are of a salmon pink color.
Each manufacturer has their own methods of making the pressed glassware, therefore the coloring, shapes and designs of the pink depression glass will be different depending on who made them, how they were made and what kind of item they are. Thicker, stronger pieces will be darker as more glass was used to make them where as the thinner pieces like saucers will be of a lighter tone.
